A web server is the computer on which the web pages of your website are stored, who delivers or ‘serves’ the content of your website to the users through Internet. Simply we can say a computer program that distribute web pages as they are requested requests via HTTP. The computer which acts as server has to have very high specifications. It is also connected to the Internet through very powerful link. The web hosts or the web hosting companies have their own servers on which they rent out space to you so that you can host your website files and make it accessible to the public.

Web server meaning:

A WEB SERVER IS A COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT PROCESSES REQUESTS VIA HTTP, THE BASIC NETWORK PROTOCOL USED TO DISTRIBUTE INFORMATION ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB. THE TERM CAN REFER EITHER TO THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, OR SPECIFICALLY TO THE SOFTWARE THAT ACCEPTS AND SUPERVISES THE HTTP REQUESTS.

When someone sits down at a computer and enters an address into an internet browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox, the browser sends a request off into the internet asking to view the web page found at that address. The web server is the program or machine that responds to that request, and delivers the content of the page back to the user.
